Overview:

Our client is one of the largest carriers of parcels, consignments and freight for businesses in the UK.

Having experienced increasing losses, the company approached Lynx to advise on reducing these losses and to provide a more effective level of manned security at its largest distribution centres located in London.

Lynx Assessment:

Although there was a sophisticated computer system for the control of packages out of the depot, there were physical deficiencies providing dishonest depot staff and drivers with the opportunity to steal.

Security staff were neither managed nor motivated and were too much a part of the depot operation.

Lynx Approach:

A full security survey was carried out at the facility, carefully mapping the existing systems and identifying all potential weakness and risks. Recommendations were made to client management including the upgrading of CCTV systems and the enhancement of access control systems throughout the depot.

Following the design and implementation of a comprehensive vehicle and personal search policy by Lynx, site security staff were trained in search procedures and techniques. The search procedure is regularly tested by using controlled attempts to remove consignments from site.

A Contract Manager was appointed and a detailed reporting procedure was implemented to monitor the frequency and results of these searches, with regular management meetings being held to review the reports.

Result:

There has been a dramatic decrease in the losses suffered by the operation, a positive financial result of logical and proactive security management by Lynx.
